Saints Gurias, Samonas and Abibus of Edessa. Russian Orthodox Icon. Saints Gurias and Samonas were beheaded in the year 322 AD by the wicked pagan emperor Licinius. Saint Abibus was martyred soon afterwards and all three martyrs were buried together in Edessa. In Russia this icon is often given as a wedding present because the three martyrs are considered to be protectors of a virtuous and chaste marriage.
