Burning Bush Mother of God

Burning Bush Mother of God (Theotokos). Russian Orthodox Icon.  This icon represents the burning bush that the Prophet Moses saw on Mount Horeb on the Sinai Peninsula (Exodus 3:2). The first icons of this type originated from St. Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai, which is located next to the mountain where Moses saw the burning bush that was not consumed. Moses saw within this bush a vision of the prefiguring of the Virgin Birth of Christ. When you look at this icon it gives you the feeling that you are seeing this prophecy with your own eyes. Within the flames are the four symbols; a man, a lion, an ox, and an eagle, which represent the four Evangelists, Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. Numerous angels are also seen, as well as tiny scenes from the life of the Prophet Moses in the four corners of the icon.

Sizes:

#5 - S (2½" x 3" on ½" wood).
#508 - M (3½" x 4" on ⅝" wood).
#946 - ML (5" x 6¼" on ¾" wood).
#1006- L (6¾" x 8¼" on ¾" wood).
