Alexander Nevsky Saint

Saint Alexander Nevsky in battle armor.  Russian Orthodox Icon.  Prince Alexander of Novgorod began to be called Nevsky because of his successful battle on the Neva River against the Swedes in 1240. Saint Alexander Nevsky negotiated several peace treaties with the Golden Hoard, which was a constant threat from the southeast, in order to focus all his military attention on his enemies to the west, especially the Swedish, Finnish, Danish, and Teutonic armies.
