Cosmos and Damian Healers

Saints Cosmos and Damian, Unmercenary Healers.  Russian Orthodox Icon.  These saints lived in the late 3rd Century. They healed in the name of Christ and refused payment from those they healed. The Emperor Carinus (283-284) imprisoned Cosmos and Damian in Rome and tried to force them to renounce Christ and offer sacrifice to the pagan gods. They refused and continued to exhort those around them to believe in Christ. The emperor was suddenly struck blind by God, but the Holy Unmercenary brothers healed him and were set free. Later the brothers were martyred by a mad physician who was envious of their fame.
