The Angel of Great Council. Russian Orthodox Icon. This icon represents Jesus Christ before he took on flesh, as can be seen in this icon showing in small letters (IC XC) to the left and right of the halo representing the first and last letters of Jesus Christ in the Church Slavonic alphabet. Since Jesus Christ is God and existed before even time began the Uncreated Word of God must have existed before Jesus was conceived through the Holy Spirit in the Virgin Mary's womb. That is why He is shown as an angel in this icon.
